Computer Draughts 2014

Post by BertTuyt »

At the start of 2014 it is good to look backwards, and check my to do and dont do list with reality
To DO:
* I will manily focus on the parallel implementation of the search.
* I need to rethink evaluation, as it seems that further speed increase might not be the (only) way forward.
* I will (most likely) make a Damage version available for public.
* I will participate in the Dutch Open 2013 :)
* Communicate often in this forum

Dont DO:
* I will (still) not start with the generation of the 8p DB.
* I will not buy a new computer, as I want to have at least 8-cores, and im not sure Intel will produce a 8-core for the Desktop 2011-socket in 2013 .
The 2013 score is apparently not great.
I did not spent much effort on the parallel implementation of the search, I didn't make Damage a version available for public, nor did I participate in the Dutch Open 2013.
Although i accepted the invitation for the Dutch Open 2013, I had to withdraw as i was invited for a 50 anniversary party.
I guess I communicated often in this forum, but nevertheless Im not satisfied with the overall score.

So hope to have a better score at the start of 2015, herewith my 2014 list, which only contain 2 items.

To DO:
* Automatic learning of the evaluation function

Dont DO:
* I will (still) not start with the generation of the 8p DB.

The public version of Damage and participation in the Dutch Open 2014, is related to the progress of the automatic learning. Think also Michel Grimmick mentioned in this forum, that he expects little major progress with respect to the implementation of new ideas. Guess that in the case of Damage it is not much different. I'm afraid that (besides some search tuning) I'm not able to add major Draughts knowledge, so I hope that i find other ways....

Hope to see you next tournament :-)

For 2014, while i still have some ideas and will implement these, this will be a busy year and i will spend a bit less time on dragon.

This will also allow me to run the machine learning capabilities in dragon with more CPU time and resources.
