Sun, sea, beach, nature, culture, friendly people, nice food, nice nightlife, draughts, … is there a better combination? Playing draughts in the morning, swimming in the sea or sitting on an elephant in the afternoon… In the evening, if you like, there are many open bars. 6th International Draughts Tournament in Jomtien (‘Thailand Open’) 14 - 23 of May 2010 in the Jomtien Garden Hotel, 31/71 Moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamoung, Chonburi 20260, THAILAND Although Thailand Open is a typical friendship tournament, it is recognized by the World Draughts Federation (FMJD), member of the GAISF, (General Association of International Sports Federations, in French AGFIS) and players can win or loose official rating points. In May 2010 there will be an international draughts tournament in Jomtien, a nice tourist village just at the beach. Nine rounds in nine days according to the Swiss System and the rules of the FMJD. There will be enough time to take part on (of course fully voluntary) excursions, or to play rapid (‘blitz’) games, or to play a small tournament ‘Thai draughts’ with the locals. The entrance fee of the participation is 50 euro (app. 70 USD). If you want to stay in the same hotel as the tournament, the costs are app. 135 euro (app. 200 USD) for 9 nights with breakfast, based on a shared room. The transfer Bangkok-Jomtien is about 5 euro (7 USD) per person with the minibus. Excursions are, of course, not included in the price. It is still possible to join the Thailand Open tournament. Last week we receive the inscription of twelve Chinese players. This group of twelve players are pupils of former worldchampion Alexey Chizhov. He is the trainer/coach of this group of youthdraughtsplayers. As usual we also have strong players from Africa and we also expect players of India. So this year we'll have, besides the big group of Dutch players, also a nice group of players from other countries.
Don't hesitate and join the Thailand Open 2010!!

Dear Friends,

The political situation in Thailand is bad at this moment but, not so bad that can not play our tournament. We are playing in the Chonburi province, and in that district there is no problem. When you’ll arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport you can immediately go to Jomtien. No problem with that. It is absolute save. Both government and the Redshirt oppositeparty declared that they don’t want to harm the touristindustry. So they promised no demonstrations at the airport. In Jomtien everything is quiet and the people there have to look on TV or internet to see that there is a problem in Bangkok. Otherwise they did’t know that there are problems in Bangkok. Bangkok airport is 25 km far from Bangkok in the direction of Jomtien. See below:
Bangkok ----------------> 25 km Suvarnabhumi Airport<------------120 km Jomtien.

So it is absolute save to visit Thailand Open this year.
Luckily, so far no one person or delegation cancel their participation because of the political situation in Thailand. We are very glad about that and we are looking forward to your visit.
Best regards and see you in Thailand :!:
