Paul Sier still not sure of victory!

Post by Hanco Elenbaas »

Finally there's some information about Prague.
Culemborg youngster Dik de Voogd is surprisingly
leading after 4 rounds.
Richard Mooser from Heerhugowaard, Champion in 2002,
isn't there this competition.
Favourite Paul Sier from Volendam couldn't win De Voogd in the 4th round.

Disappointment

Post by Hanco Elenbaas »

Paul Sier from Volendam is not in his best shape in Prague.
In the fifth round he had to be content with an unexpected draw
against teammate Andrew Tjon A Ong from Maarssen.
Very disappointing because normally Andrew is the prey
for predator Paul Sier.
Because Roberts Misans from Latvia beat Dik de Voogd it could
become difficult for Paul Sier to win the tournament.
Sensational is the 3rd place for complete outsider Kolman Turiy from the
USA.
Big surprise is also Henri Macaux from France (in the eighties in France
he was called Le salaud Macaux, it was never easy to win him).

Standing on top after 5 rounds:
1. Roberts Misans (Latvia) 8
2. Andrew Tjon A Ong (Netherlands) 7
3. Kolman Turiy (USA) 7
4. Dik de Voogd (Netherlands) 7
5. Paul Sier (Netherlands) 7
6. Henri Macaux (France) 7
7. Václav Krišta (Czech Republic) 6
8. Erwin Heslinga (Netherlands) 6
9. Patrick Martin (France) 6

Well, I wouldn't call Kolman Turiy complete outsider.
I remember that our team of student's sport union "Burevestnik" in already almost antic 1985 got third in the Cup of USSR above many teams with top grandmasters in it.
And our was: A.Presman, M. Galashov, K. Turiy, N. Jankovskaja.

Nina just began to play 100.

Kolman Turiy

Post by Hanco Elenbaas »

Oh, I'm sorry Sasha, I never heard of him!
It's good for Draughts that some players who emigrated from
the former USSR to the USA are starting to play tournaments
again.
Two years ago in Curaçao I met Anatoli Zatuchny, also formerly
Minsk, now USA, and still in love with Draughts.
Do you think Kolman is strong enough to win Prague?
How long ago did he go the USA?

I don't know exactly. the golf of immigration was in early 90th.
He played also 2 times in Salou. And he makes very high level compositions (end game).

Le salaud

Post by Jacques PERMAL »

Dear Hanco,

I saw what you said in this site :
http://forums.multimania.lycos.fr/lire/dames/

Now in French writing language, "Salaud" is a swear word !!!!

But sometimes it can be a joke.

So you should explain to frenches players (in french language) the entire historic of this expression about Henri Macaux without misunderstanding !!!

Best regards !!!

Dear Jacques,
No swearword at all, as to me!
It was just that everytime the name Macaux was mentioned in these years
the French Draughts players before or after said: Le Salaud, while laughing.
We, from the Pays Bas, also found it amusing, because of the nice rhyme in it:
Macaux, Le Salaud! Le Salaud Macaux!
Two words, beautifully composed for eachother!

Roberts Misians won with 11 points after a very quick draw in the last game with Sier.
