Rules and regulations
of the 5th (fifth) individual World Championship
by problems (PWCP-V) - “Big and giant problems”.
1. The 5th individual World Championship by Big and Giant problems, PWCP-V, is an official World Championship of the World Draughts Federation FMJD (Federation Mondiale du Jeu de Dames - FMJD). FMJD is fully responsible for organizing this event. The Board of Directors (CD) FMJD appointed Commission du Problemisme International – CPI FMJD, for organizing and controlling PWCP-V.
2. The World Championship timeframe: May 20, 2012 till May 20, 2013.
PWCP-V is regulated by RI CPI FMJD for problems (Part 1) and competitions (Part II).
3. Big and giant problems without kings in initial setting are eligible to participate in the World Championship if problem is matching to Masters (RM) or Super Masters (RS) levels. Big and giant problem are not eligible to participate in PWCP-V if it matches only to Basic Rule (RB).
4. The following big and giant problems can participate in PWCP-V: new problems & problems published (including Internet sources) after March 31, 2003. Big and giant problems which participate in other competitions during PWCP-V timeframe, are not allowed to participate in PWCP-V and will be eliminated.
5. The following Big and Giant problems are prohibited to participate in PWCP-V: team or co-author problems, corrected problems which participated in other competition in the past and were evaluated by “0” (zero) points.
6. In all big and giant problems the task is: “white to move and win”. PWCP-V consists of 4 (four) categories.
6.1. Category A, free theme.
Legal material balance in initial position: 11 (black) x 13 (white), 12х13, 13х12,
13х13, 12х14, 13х14, 14х13, 14х14, 13х15, 14х15, 15х14, 15х15.
6.2. Category B.
Legal material balance in initial position: 11х13, 12х13, 13х12, 13х13, 12х14,
13х14, 14х13, 14х14, 13х15, 14х15, 15х14, 15х15.
Theme: at least two sacrifices of white kings during combination.

2,6,7,8,10,12,26,32,35,37,38,40,42(13)/13,16,17,19,21,23,24,25,27,28,30,31,48(13).
Solution: 161, 272, 5, 7, 2, 46, 11, 37(22), 32+.
6.3. Category C.
Legal material balance in initial position: 11х13, 12х13, 13х12, 13х13, 12х14, 13х14, 14х13, 14х14, 13х15, 14х15, 15х14, 15х15.
Theme: during combination “majority jump” rule is in affect at least four (4) times for
black.

Solution: 228, 22, 31, 11, 4, 40, 28(11), 22(26), 17+.
6.4. Category D, free theme.
Legal material balance in initial position: 14х16, 15х16, 16х14, 16х15, 16х16, 15х17, 16х17, 17х15, 17х16, 17х17, 16х18, 17х18, 18х16, 18х17, 18х18, 17х19, 18х19, 19х17, 19х18, 19х19, 18х20, 19х20, 20х18, 20х19, 20х20.
If material balance in initial position is 16х14, 17х15, 18х16, 19х17, 20х18, solution of giant problem shall not have any duals covered in RI, 1.9-1.9.5.
7. In each category participant can submit up to two (2) positions with written category of championship and full solution until the moment when white win is obvious. All solutions must be given in short notation form. Only compositional variations and compositional false solutions can be written along with legacy prove – if in initial position white are attacked by black (RI, 1.3). Only these solutions and variations the Coordinator (Organizer) of the World Championship publish on authorized Internet sites (see list below).
If composition participated in other competitions or was published (including Internet sources), an author is obligated to include information about competition or date and source of first publication.
In addition to main solution and compositional variations, author can also include an extra (not compositional) variations, show the prove of the only solution, demonstrate the necessity of some pieces (not static) etc. This additional information is delivered to judges by the championship Coordinator (Organizer) but not included into official publication of positions and solutions.
8. All positions will be rank separately in each category and receive points based on the category final standings as following: 1st place – 100 points, 2nd place – 97 points, 3rd place – 94 points, 4th place – 92 points, 5th place – 90 points, 6th place – 88 points, 7th place – 87 points and so on by accordingly reducing number of points by 1 (one). Position can be eliminated (evaluated by zero points) only in objective case covered in RI.
9. Participant total final individual score will be calculated as sum of his/her points received for the 5 (five) best compositions disregard category. This means that all compositions in all 4 (four) categories will be considered.
10. Ranking criteria’s when the points as described in (9) are equal (tie):
10.1. Score sum of 6 best performances;
10.2. Score sum of 7 best performances;
10.3. Score sum of 8 performances.
11. The winner of the Big and Giant Problems World Championship PWCP-V, will be given the World Champion title. He will be awarded by golden medal and a CPI FMJD diploma. The number two and three of the total scores will be awarded by silver and bronze medals accordingly and diplomas.
In addition, the prize money will be given as follows:
• For the I-st place – 300 US dollars;
• For the II-nd place – 200 US dollars;
• For the III-d place – 100 US dollars.
12. Jury Committee of the World Championship PWCP-V consists of:
A. Moiseyev (USA), A. Uvarov (Ukraine), V. Vorushilo (Belarus), R.Shayakhmetov (Russia), S. Žilevičius (Lithuania).
A.Kačiuška (Lithuania) is appointed as Coordinator (Organizer) of the PWCP-V World Championship.
13. All participants must submit Big and Giant Problems until October 1, 2012 by regular mail to Coordinator/Organizer (see address below). The date of stamp on envelope will be considered as an official date of submission. Participants also can send positions and solutions electronically to Coordinator (Organizer) via e-mail but duplication by regular mail is necessary and must.
In order to avoid conflicts, it is highly recommended to all participants to send a certified mail with the assurance of receipt. Participants also can include their e-mail address if they desire.

Geen Nederlands eremetaal in de vier categorieën. Beste Nederlander in een categorie is Tj Smedinga met een vierde plaats in categorie D.
Pikant detail: Smedinga won een tijdje terug een prestigieus KVD-concours met een probleem dat wat kritiek oogste - ook van mij. Maar met onderstaande compositie heeft Smedinga laten zien dat een hoge klassering in een problemistenconcours geen toeval is.

Oplossing: 41,483,39,12(8),26x17,504,31,21,40,30,2,2x38x9,9+.
Een zeer goed probleem met een mooie, compacte beginstand.
