Checkers for Android 2.5

Post by AartBik »

Continuing my revisit of checkers programming, I just released version 2.5 of Checkers for Android, both at the Google Play and as direct download.

New features include:
  • simple animation of captured pieces
  • added a slight delay in single-move response
  • added transposition table to engine
  • more time controls
The new animation and delay will hopefully make it more clear what move was just played. The transposition table should improve the engine strength a bit.

Another update, version 2.5.1 improves the animation as shrinking pieces (some users thought the older fading pieces were "drag delay" instead of the nifty animation I intended :-)), adds more endgame knowledge, and shows kings more clearly.

Nice A(a)rtwork! :-) Any chance of making a 10x10 version? That would really be nice to have.

Thanks Rein! It is truly more Aartwork than Artwork (for example, the wood texture is really a picture of my coffee table!), since I like original work, but I am not much of an artist I am afraid. I do enjoy game programming though, and the itch to move to international checkers is still there. So who knows :-)

Checkers for Android was featured in the most recent issue of The Checkers Maven. I was honored to receive a special mention besides Martin Fierz' Checkers Tutor application.
