dragon 4.0

Post by MichelG »

It has been a while since the last update of dragon, but Dragon 4.0 is now available for testing. If you are interested, you can download it from http://mdgsoft.home.xs4all.nl/draughts/beta4.0.html

changes in 4.0 (24-8-2011)
- completely new user interface
- engine search speed is increased by a factor between 2 and 3, due to improved multithreading algorithms and switch to bitboards.
- endgame database generation is fully multithreaded and can generate up to 8 piece endgames (given sufficient ram)

Hi Michel,

That's great! I will try to install it at home tonight. Is the new version compatible with the old databases? And do you also have a new Killer engine?

The databases are not compatible. Goiing from 7 to 8 pieces is a big change and requires a new data-structure.

Database generation should be about 10 times or more as fast as in the previous version, so regenerating them should not be a problem.

Killer doesn't function at the moment, but i will look into that.

Michel, it is good to see yo active again within the Computer draughts Community.

I have downloaded the application really nice.
There is a Register (Pro Version) button, does that mean, you have the intention to bring out (next to the freeware version) a commercial version.
In the next days I will also issue a freeware beta version of the Horizon/Damage Hybrid (so the Engine with the Horizon Eval and Damage Search, and Damage 2011 GUI), also bit-board based :)
If you are interested we can exchange engine sources as I'm always interested to share and learn.

I am not sure about that yet. It's a hobby project, but i wouldn't mind some income from it. But i am guessing it wouldn't sell in big numbers; and there are other (free) programs out there that are also very good :-).

Anyway, if you want to fully test the program, i can send you a code without problems, just send me a mail.

For now, i would like to play some match between damage and dragon. I'll look forward to your beta-version

That will be in the 'official' version. Please note that to generate them, you need a computer with a 64 bit operating system, 24 GB of RAM, 2TB of free disk space and lots of patience.

Michel have a few important questions as for the program Dragon.

1. I ask to write in what folder are generated endings

2. Loam occupy 6 figure bases of endings

3. Loam occupy 7 figure bases of endings

4. Loam occupy 8 figure bases of endings
