Hi Sidiki,
I can imagine that you are tired after running 2 complete rounds each day for almost 2 weeks in a row. For what it's worth, I appreciate it very much that you took the time to have these programs play against each other.
Although Ares didn't change much (it only has an entirely different network, no NNUE anymore), this tournament was a nice opportunity to find out how the new network performs under tournament conditions.

Hi Sidiki,
Thank you so much for organizing and running the tournament! As always, it was very insightful.
I have published the tournament release (7.902) on Github: https://github.com/gwiesenekker/GWD. The main new features are that GWD now uses embedding vectors for evaluation of the neural network rather than NNUE, and researches LMR scores close to alpha.

GW

Re: AUGUST 2025 BLITZ TOURNAMENT
Sidiki, first of all thanks for organizing this interesting tournament.
Also congratulations for the winner Ares en runner-up GWD.
In the end the win from Ares against Dragon was decisive for the end result.
This was the only non draw game between the top programs.
This tournament once again proves (exception the Ares - Dragon game) that the top programs always draw.
And that the tournament mostly is decided by the number of wins against the weaker programs, in this tournament Flits, Truus and Horizon.
These are also the only programs which use a traditional hand-coded evaluation function.
With so many very strong programs competing (this time 9 in total, out of the 12), one can not afford too many draws against the bottom. In the case of Damage, the program couldn't convert 2 times a huge advantage, and was only able to win 1 game. This is immedialtely reflected in the end ranking. So work to do....
The hard work of Frank Mesander clearly paid off, as Tornado realized a top 3 position, well done Frank!
And last but not least both GWD as Ares used a different neural network, which seems to make a real difference.
If progress continues, we might see new surprises next tournament.

Re: AUGUST 2025 BLITZ TOURNAMENT
Sidiki,
Thanks again for organizing and running this tournament!
Congratulations to Gijsbert and Frank with the very big improvement of GWD and Tornado.
As said before, one needs a bit of luck to win a tournament with several contenders of approximately the same strength. It often depends upon the outcome of just a single game.

Re: AUGUST 2025 BLITZ TOURNAMENT
Sidiki, could you post a pdn-file with all the games. Or is this already included on the website?

Sidiki, guess for bulk analysis one file would really help me.

Re: AUGUST 2025 BLITZ TOURNAMENT
With Windows: start cmd (Command Prompt) in the directory where all 22 .pdn files are stored. Give command: copy *.pdn allgames.pdnBertTuyt wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 21:41 Sidiki, guess for bulk analysis one file would really help me.

Re: AUGUST 2025 BLITZ TOURNAMENT
Hi everybody,
Thanks for all.
OK Bert i will do it.
Yes the command copy *. pdn allgames.pdn work as for PGN and text format . I will arrange anyway by round, not necessary the order by round, only if i rename each game of each round by 01 and so on. Give me at least tomorrow to do it.
