It is for the first time, that foreign participation is allowed in a Cuban draughts tournament. Four draughts fans from Costa Rica already honored the efforts of the Cuban draughts community by confirming their arrival to Cienfuegos. The Cuban draughts community is in the process of establishing a national draughts federation.
Tournament system
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system: 7 rounds, with two rounds on the first three days and one round on the last day.

The strongest players from Cuba have confirmed their participation.
Special Hospitality package offered to foreign players coming to Cuba
- transfer Havana – Cienfuegos – Havana 50 Cuban convertable dollars* per person or in case of more than 5 players, 20 Cuban dollars per person.
- stay in hotel Punta Caves from October 8-12, all meals included, in double rooms 150 Cuban dollars per person.
You will not find a cheaper solution for a very nice stay in Cuba! Youth players as well as veterans of course are also very welcome to come and take part in the competition.
This is a very special tournament for the Cuban community and the list of foreign participants needs to be coordinated with the government. For this reason, the enrolment deadline is Tuesday September 30th. Please send your enrolment no later than Tuesday September 30 to:

Cienfuegos is a place that you must have visited, it's city center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Of course, players need to arrange for their own plane tickets. Visas can be obtained through your airline upon arrival in Havana, you can find more information on lonelyplanet.com.
Don't wait and shop for your ticket to this unique and first time international draughts experience in Cuba. Please note, that it should be possible to – on your own initiative of course – extend your stay to admire more of this beautiful and still mysterious island. Buen viaje!
* The Cuban convertible dollar is linked to the US dollar. With a maximum price of 200 dollars (in case of 50 dollars per person airport transfer), the cost on Cuba for the tournament inclusive of hotel and meals is the equivalent of ca 160 euros.
