Today, the SportAccord World Mind Games in Beijing began. The games can be followed live at the event website http://www.worldmindgames.net.
International Grandmaster Alexander Presman is giving live commentary both for the international television broadcast and the live stream on Youtube.

Internet connection in China is horrible, which is why it takes a big effort to update the website. Currently, draughts is the only mindsport that managed to integrate it's games into the event website. The ambition of SportAccord and the International Federations of course is to increase the flow of information and news as fast as possible. This however strongly depends on improvement in internet connection on which still an army of engineers is working.

On the first day, Alexander Georgiev took the lead in a 'Dutch campaign' with victories over Alexander Baliakin and Pim Meurs. Also on Roel Boomstra he managed to put some pressure, but Boomstra neutralized the game. In the women's category, no less than five ladies are leading with four points out of three games. Tomorrow will be the second half of the rapid event, on Saturday and Sunday followed by the blitz event. So, with the climax of the rapid tournament and the blitz event ahead, an exciting weekend can be expected on http://www.worldmindgames.net.

Mooi dat het goed doorkomt in Nederland! Voor commentator: zie boven . Te gast was inderdaad Rob Clerc, Alexander hoopt dat Rob de komende week vaker 'op bezoek' zal komen. Door de beroerde internet connectie gaat de upload van de live partijen zo'n beetje met paard en wagen, er werd vandaag ieder uur wel een aantal telefoontjes naar onzichtbare netwerk admins gepleegd om de situatie te verbeteren. We hopen zeer dat deze telefoontjes vanaf morgen effect hebben. Vanaf zaterdag zal dat met blitz en daarna zelfs super blitz natuurlijk zeer nodig zijn. Het demonstratiebord dat je in de Youtube feed ziet, is onlangs door Alexander zelf ontworpen en qua ontwerp met Swiss Timing afgestemd.

Dat is mij iets te vroeg. De charme van het toernooi is er daarnaast toch wel af door dit waardeloze systeem. Dit is voor mij toch wel het bewijs dat we niet moeten afstappen van het langzame dammen

De website van het toernooi vind ik nogal onoverzichtelijk, dus wellicht kan men in de toekomst weer een aparte dampagina maken zoals tijdens een voorgaande editie wel gebeurde (http://swmg.fmjd.org/). Want ik had meestal geen flauw idee wat er op het spel stond tijdens de keren dat ik keek naar een live partij.
