FIRST DAY OF SPORTACCORD ONLINE DRAUGHTS TOURNAMENT
The first day of the SportAccord online draughts tournaments in general was a success: there was much interest in participating in 1 of the 8 daily blitz tournaments. But during some of the tournaments, a technical problem occurred, which resulted in some tournaments ending after three instead of the regular number of five rounds. After frantic research it was first suspected that a memory leak was the cause of the problem. A more detailed research brought the real culprit to light: two conflicting processes. This problem was tackled this morning and we expect that the SportAccord Online Draughts Tournaments with the first tournament starting today at 13:00 CEST and the next tournaments at 15:00 17:00, 19:00, 21:00, 23:00, 01:00 and 03:00 CEST will continue to be a success and put the problems in some of yesterdays' tournaments in the past. In total, no less than 72 small online blitz tournaments will be organized in the days to come. See you @ http://www.playdraughts.com .

SECOND DAY OF SPORTACCORD ONLINE DRAUGHTS TOURNAMENT
Where the first day of the SportAccord Online Draughts Cup was a success but with some technical discomfort - solved after a long day and night for PlayDraughts initiator and developer Roel Langendam - the second day was a total success. Participation grew and all tournaments were started and concluded fully automated. Some perspectives:
- Active competition by players from Africa, America, Asia and Europe.
- Number of players in the tournaments and the time it took to finish the tournaments yesterday, times in CEST, maximum =32: 13:00 - 31 - 59 mns 15:00 - 26 - 54 mns 17:00 - 27 - 56 mns 19:00 - 22 - 57 mns 21:00 - 26 - 53mns 23:00 - 25 - 54mns 01:00 - 21 - 55mns 03:00 - 9 - 54mns.
There was one 'complaint': in one game, player had used up all his time and still the game was declared a draw by the server. How come? Because playdraughts.com applies the 16 moves rule where a game is (declared) a draw after 16 moves have been played in a 3-1 endgame.
We have 64 tournaments to go and today, the third series of 8 small blitz tournaments will again start with the first tournament @ 13:00 CEST, followed by tournaments @ 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00, 23:00, 01:00 and 03:00. Any player who wants can play in one or more of the tournaments. The more you play and the better you score, the better your chances of winning the trip to Beijing. But just playing in these blitz tournaments is already a lot of fun in itself.
Enjoy at http://www.playdraughts.com!

4TH DAY OF SPORTACCORD ONLINE DRAUGHTS CUP
4th day of SportAccord online action went well: growing number of players, tournaments that again went smoothly. Thomy Mbongo remains in the lead and Jan van Dijk is chasing him. 3 players have been excluded from the competition and will be deleted from the rankings because of use of draughts programs: Ivan (a player from Poland who also falsely uses the good name of the real Ivan Trofimov from Russia), diego10x10 and fabiano. The aim of these measures is to safeguard the otherwise sportive atmosphere of playdraughts.com.
Also today again 8 small blitz tournaments that each take less than 60 minutes to complete and that are open to anyone who logs into http://www.playdraughts.com/: @ 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00, 23:00, 01:00 and 03:00 CEST.
Enjoy draughts @ http://www.playdraughts.com/!

SEVENTH DAY OF SPORTACCORD ONLINE DRAUGHTS CUP: NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS CONTINUES TO GROW
With three more days to go, participation in the SportAccord Online Draughts Cup at http://www.playdraughts.com continues to grow. Yesterday, the number of visitors reached a PlayDraughts.com record level: at one moment, more than 60 players were playing online.
Yesterday, again 8 tournaments were played. However, a nasty (luxury) problem did occur. With several tournaments, there were more people wishing to play than there were seats available. The PlayDraughts.com software is designed in such a way that each tournament automatically starts when the maximum capacity for that specific tournament is reached. However, this function did not work as it should so that these tournament had to be manually restarted. Manually starting the tournaments also means manually updating the Cup ranking, which is the reason why the Cup ranking currently is not up to date. This problem will be solved as soon as possible. In the meantime, also today again 8 tournaments will take place (either automatically or manually) @ 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00, 23:00, 01:00 and 03:00 CEST.
Even with the most recent Cup standing lacking, it is clear that the batlle for the first place so far primarily conerns Thomy Lucien Mbongo, Jan van Dijk en Sadabou Drame. However, each small blitz tournament it again is a suprise who emerges as the victor as each tournament only lasts less than 60 minutes...
The SportAccord Online Draughts Cup is being organized in anticipation of the SportAccord World Mind Games that will take place December 12-18 in Beijing, China. The format with rapid, blitz and super blitz games will be spectacular. The games will be broadcast live via Youtube, Television and electronic draughts boards. International Grandmaster Alexander Presman will provide the live comments for among others Beijing Television and can probably be heard over the Youtube stream as well. The website of the SportAccord World Mind Games can be found at http://www.worldmindgames.net/ .
After the SportAccord World Mind Games, the draughts world maintains it's blitz mode. Because in Den Helder, The Netherlands, the blitz climax will be organized: the World Championship Blitz on December 21 and 22. On December 21, there will be a qualification tournament and on December 22, the final will be played. For those who will not qualify for the final, there will be an open blitz tournament. Enrollment for the qualification tournament is open for a maximum of 96 participants and is already possible via the corresponding news article on http://www.fmjd.org.

8TH DAY OF SPORTACCORD ONLINE DRAUGHTS CUP: DRAME OVERTAKES VAN DIJK
On the 8th day of the SportAccord Online Draughts Cup Sadabou Drame seems to have overtaken Jan van Dijk in the Cup ranking. Seems, because this ranking due to illness and sometimes the necessity to update it manually is not completely up to date. Of course, a solution is being searched for. The undisputed leader of the Cup however is Thomy Mbongo from Cameroon.
With today and tomorrow being the last days of tournament, for new participants to the Cup it has become impossible to overtake Mbongo and win the main prize – a trip to Beijing – or a Samsung tablet (2nd prize) or a Swatch watch (3d prize). However, each player that during the tournament period logs into http://www.playdraughts.com and plays a minimum of 5 games automatically takes part in a lottery with an extra Samsung tablet and an extra Swatch watch being the prizes. In the meantime, the number of participants also yesterday kept growing and the number of players being simultaneously online remained at a good level. Yesterday afternoon, more than 50 players were simultaneously online. Also today the 8 daily tournaments start at 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00, 21:00, 23:00, 01:00 and 03:00. Participating is simple: go to http://www.playdraughts.com, click 'Click here to play' and log in or if needed register first.

In the meantime, in The Netherlands preparations for the World Championship Blitz that will be organized directly after the SportAccord World Mind Games in Den Helder are in full swing. The championship will be on Saturday December 21 and Sunday December 22. Enrollment for the WC qualification tournament on Saturday December 21 is open and can already be done through the corresponding news item at http://www.fmjd.org.
