World Championship Women (qualification)

Post by Managing Board » Mon Apr 14, 2003 20:30

Implementation of proposal
World Championship Women.

1. Format

Following the consensus of earlier SA 100 and GA, the competition for the Women’s world title has the following format:
- a round robin tournament of 14 players in the uneven years
- a match between the winner of that tournament and the ex-champion in the even years. In case the match-champion wins the tournament, the match is between the champion and nr. two of the tournament.

2. Principles of qualification

- The world champion and the former challenger (vice-world champion) are placed ex officio
- The continental championships are the base of the qualification.
- To allow the FMJD some leeway in adjusting for recent developments and include more federations into the competition, two places are allotted to the FMJD.
- From the European championship: 5 places. All reserves also come from this championship.
- The continents of Africa, America and Asia each have one place. They have to indicate in six months before the tournament whether they will use that place. If not, then the place is allotted to the FMJD places.
- The FMJD with its 2 – 5 places tries to organise qualifying tournament (c.f. Cannes, Slavno for the general WC) for those countries not yet represented. If this proves not possible, the FMJD Board shall decide on the basis of rating and/or recent performance the allotment of these places.

3. Next championship

For the 2003 Tournament in Zeeland, this gives the following qualification:

1
World Champion T.Tansykkuzhina Russia
2 Challenger Z. Golubeva Latvia
3 Europe 1 T.Chub Holland
4 Europe 2 O.Baltazhi Ukraine
5 Europe 3 E.Milshina Russia
6 Europe 4 V.Dumesh Holland
7 Europe 5 T.Teterina Russia
8 Asia 1
9 America 1
10 Africa 1
11 FMJD
12 FMJD
13 Organisation
14 Sponsor

Africa, America and Asia have to state at the General Assembly whether they will use their places or not.
