Thanks, this rating of Cordier surprises me indeed!
Maybe it is that high because Arnaud Cordier week in week out can slaughter some weak Frenchmen?
On the other hand we can see that the rating of Gabriel Kolesov is almost as high as Cordier's. And Gabriel also didn't succeed in qualifying for the WC. What kind of rating Gabriel Kolesov could have, if he had the privilege to kill 60 fresh Frenchmen every year?

Arnaud Cordier, un damiste puissant

Il est certain qu'Arnaud Cordier est devenu un damiste de force internationale, ainsi que l'attestent ses nombreux bons résultats depuis pas mal de temps. C'est un damiste discipliné dont le jeu se signale rarement par des déchets, sauf à quelques rares occasions où la nécessité de gagner l'a obligé à prendre des risques, comme lors d'une partie face à Sijbrands. On ne voit pas le type de progrès qu'Arnaud Cordier se devrait encore d'accomplir car j'ai l'impression que ce qu'il connaît déjà du jeu dames, fruit incontestablement de recherches académiques, lui permet de se défendre admirablement face à la haute élite internatioanle. Toutefois je pense qu'il doit travailler son mental, car il n'est pas certain qu'il soit convaincu de battre un super-GMI. Techniquement, je n'ai rien de particulier à lui reprocher. Simplement je trouve qu'il a tendance à recourir systématiquement à l'encerclement, même si sa façon de jouer lors du dernier championnat de France a semblé marquer une rupture avec cette tendance.
Je pense que Cordier n'a pas les moyens de devenir champion du monde à moyen terme, s'il en reste à un jeu de type hyper-académique. Or la majorité des damistes participant au championnat du monde sont si férus de connaissances académiques qu'il est pratiquement impossible de les surprendre dans le cadre d'un jeu empruntant des sentiers battus. C'est pourquoi je pense que Cordier doit parfois accepter de prendre des libertés avec le jeu académique, condition de la réalisation de résultats spectaculaires face aux meilleurs GMI. Mais je doute qu'il soit prêt à le faire : je pense qu'il préferera recourir à son jeu habituel, fort de ce qu'il lui permet d'obtenir sans difficultés des résultats probants face à des damistes aussi considérables que Tchizov, Valneris, Schwarzman, Samb, etc.
Si Cordier est effectivement un damiste pénétrant, il faudrait se garder de trop le célébrer, car il n'est pas encore au niveau des damistes représentant la haute élite internationale. A cet égard, il est regrettable que certains de ses admirateurs en France aient commencé à trop l'encenser. Je suis heureux de constater que Cordier, lui-même, est conscient du chemin qu'il lui reste à accomplir pour pouvoir tutoyer durablement ces damistes-là.
