PODIUM

1. TON TILLEMANS (TD KING)
2. GERARD TAILLE (DAMY)
3. ED GILBERT (KINGSROW)

The true third is BERT TUYT. But he was in a hurry. So he couldn't be on the podium for the photo.

Hi,

Congratulation to Ton Tillemans for this convincing victory. To finish before Damy, Kingsrow and Damage is surely a great performance and it is significant concerning the strength of TDKing.

We can now conclude that 4 programms are leading the computer draugths world. Sjende Blyn is just a little behind but, for strange reason, she has often difficulties against Damy. No doubt that Jeel Wiersma will find the problem.

Of course nobody knows what will be the future and the other programms may also make a lot of progress!

Hi Gérard,

You are a very generous guy to be so polite after the horrors of hardware failure! Otherwise you might well have continued your French title. In any case, are the games available in PDN already? (I have Kingsrows and those of Dam 2.2 are on Harm's website).

Also, I found the tie-break rule quite surprising. Why wasn't there a normal sudden-death play-off game between Damy & TDKing? It seems a bit strange to let a human play 2 games against tied programs. Was this decided before the tournament or was it a spontaneous idea?

A question for Feike: whas your new program Horizon the same as BoomstraDam in December? Or did you have new parallel hardware/algorithms that were not yet quite stable enough?

In fact I am not able to say if it was a hardware failure or a software bug.
The only thing I know is that Windows XP displayed a message saying it was facing disk acces problem.
Unfortunatly I do not know how I can reproduce this problem!

No parallel problems I think, serious problems with my eval function. I am still investigating. It looks that "improvements" didn't work out as such. And against TD_King I had a very strange problem, the number of evaluated nodes/sec went down with around 40 times. I have seen that a few times earlier, but I can't reproduce it. No idea where to look for.

The games of Dam 2.2 are with applet(s) in Toernooibase/Tournamentbase.
Maybe the other competitors can send their games in .pdn by mail!

Damy problem now solved

Post by TAILLE »

Hi,

Good news; I managed to reproduce the crash program and the problem is now solved. It was a simple typing error; instead of writing a "d=5" instruction in a specific breakthrough calculation I wrote "n=5" disturbing completly the program.
That is part of the life.

3. DAMAGE (B. TUYT) 10 pts
4. KINGSROW (E. GILBERT) 10 pts
5. SJENDE BLYN (J. WIERSMA) 09 pts
6. TORNADO (F. MESANDER) 08 pts
7. HORIZON ( F. BOOMSTRA) 5 pts
8. DREAM (S. KOUDACHE) 1 pt

TORNADO won DAMY after a computer crash. G. TAILLE had to restart machine.
TD KING won DAMY after barrage.

More later.

TEAMS TOURNAMENT

1. MONROUGE 1 (M. KOUAME, A. TETY & F. NDONZI)
2. MONTROUGE 2 (N. CAMARA, P. JAUFFRIT & P. ZEH)
3. ROUEN (J. BEYAERT, D. DUVAL & J. PERMAL)
Whether on which days somebody knows (on which day) these tournament were held. It for information thanks from mountain.
