In May 1986 I played a tournament in Verfeil, a beautiful place in the northern part of the former Catalan empire, not far from Toulouse. The organizer was Jacques André Offrédo, who still lives in the neighbourhood of Verfeil with his wife Suzanne.
I finished third, together with Luc Guinard and Eran Binenbaum, who lives in Australia nowadays. After us players like Raoul Delhom, Pappa Cissé, Antoine Mélinon, JP Dubois, Vigné, Hugo Schut and Emile Biscons from Narbonne, who 'discoverered' Baba Sy, when he worked in Senegal. In the last round I played against Fidèle Nimbi who escaped with a draw. Because of that Nimbi had the right to play a rapid-barrage with Hein Meijer. We, the Dutch, were convinced that Hein would kill this not so strong Nimbi. But things are not always as they seem and Nimbi very easily won the barrage and took away the first price before our noses.
I can remember Nimbi drove a very expensive car and all the time during his games he was hanging around near the telephone, doing business. And when Jacques André did the cérémonie-protocollaire Nimbi brought his astonishing beautiful Congolese wife.
I never forget Nimbi.
Jacques, have you ever heard of Louzolo-Kimbembe? He also is from Brazzaville and Bikindou Adelin is very enthusiast about him.
I think he is also secretary of the Congolese Draughts Federation.

Who is this anonymous who knows FIDELE NIMBI ? Perhaps HARM WIERSMA ?

No, I'm sorry Jacques, it was just me. Although Fidèle Nimbi is a pretty tough one, it's absolutely impossible that ever in his life he will finish before Harm Wiersma, the strongest Dutch player ever, in a draughts tournament!

I didn't read the archives of the past (1966). Did you play a lot of DUTCH CHAMPIONSHIPS ?
No, I'm not so strong Jacques, but in France they are even weaker Remember that Souleymane Keita, of whom in France they think he is strong, was behind me in Bijlmer 2001.
It's very difficult to qualify fot the Dutch finals, especially when you live in Amsterdam.

La partie entre Cordier et Berçot est difficile àcomprendre. En l'enlevant, le damiste parisien a affiché ouvertement ses intentions pour la suite de la compétition. Je pense sincèrement qu'il sera difficile, cette année, de résister àCordier pour la victoire finale. C'est en effet le concurrent qui, sur l'ensemble des parties des deux premières rondes, s'est montré le plus sérieux.
Ce qui m'a irrité, c'est l'incapacité de Berçot àorienter facilement, dans une finale de neuf pions contre neuf pions, la partie vers la remise.
Ce qui est sûr, c'est que Cordier n'aura pas àengager une bataille sur le terrain de la psychologie, ses adversaires n'étant obnubilés devant lui que par la remise, ainsi que le montre la façon dont Guibert et Berçot ont joué contre lui. La crainte de Guibert et de Berçot transparaît bien àtravers leurs options de jeu respectives face au Maître international français et multiple champion de France. C'est cette crainte, c'est-à-dire cette incapacité àse libérer, qui explique les approximations de jeu que l'un et l'autre ont commises.
Je n'ai pas trouvé du plaisir àvoir la partie entre Nicault et (Th.) Delmotte, partie trop en deça des moyens, bien connus, du damiste toulousain dont j'avais regretté ici l'inconstance chronique.
Nicault m'a énormément déçu relativement àsa partie contre
Nimbi. J'ai l'impression que le damiste de Normandie, pourtant auteur de magnifiques prestations àParthenay où il dût pousser le super-GMI Valneris dans ses derniers retranchements, est en train de rater son championnat.
Kouamé joue certes bien, mais nullement au niveau de ses énormes moyens théoriques. Je déplore qu'il s'en tienne systématiquement au jeu académique bien qu'il sache que ses adversaires en sont forcément avertis. Face àGuibert, hier, il a dû recourir àtoutes les ressources de son savoir pour ne pas perdre la partie. S'il continue àjouer comme lors de ses deux premières parties, il ne serait pas exclu qu'il tombe face àl'un des grands concurrents.
Mal inspiré face àCordier, Guibert s'est bien repris hier dans sa partie avec Kouamé. Toutefois il a très mal négocié sa fin de partie face au GMI parisien: il a cru naïvement qu'une structure finale caractérisée par l'avance d'un pion lui serait plus avantageuse qu'un jeu de patience devant se traduire par un passage àdames plus tardif.
Nimbi, en s'offrant Nicault àl'issue d'une partie finalement d'attente, a certainement voulu dire aux observateurs qu'ils auraient tort de l'enterrer vivant. Delmotte (G.) et Lognon se défendent bien.
Les deux premières rondes ne manquent pas d'intérêt. Leurs résultats indiquent bien que Cordier est un damiste toujours incontournable sur l'échiquier français, situation dont ne peut que se réjouir tout sociétaire du Damier Parisien.
