Dammer Jan Groenendijk has become European champion for the second time in his career. He won in Chianciano (Ita) in the last round with white against the only 15-year-old Matheo Boxum, who was also in the lead. Groenendijk was also the best at the previous European Championship, in Kortrijk in 2022. He was then the fifth Dutchman to win European Championship gold after Ton Sijbrands, Harm Wiersma, Gerard Jansen and Roel Boomstra. Sijbrands even won the European title fourtimes.
