Who is the strongest player to play a computer?

Post by mschribr » Mon Sep 11, 2006 21:31

Is GM Valneris the strongest player to play a computer? Valneris was ranked number 4 with a FMJD rating 2424. In 2003 Valneris played Flits. The score was 6-6. Where can I get more details of this match?

Some games of the matches from Flits against Johan Krajenbrink (10 games) and Guntis Valneris (7 games) can be found in Dambo applet on Wieger Wesselink's site:

What were the time limits used in the Flits Valneris match?
In the Flits Krajenbrink match the time was 20 minutes/player + 10 seconds/move. Is this fast? In the World Championship the time is 50 moves/2 hours + 1 hour. Krajenbrink would have better chances with more time.

When you play without a plan you are going to lose. Your pieces are going aimlessly here and there and are not working together harmoniously like a family to achieve a common goal. Often the pawn structure can show you where you should play, at the kingside or at the queenside.

In Chess GMI vd Wiel is wel known to play good against programs .
However, this was aprox. 5 years ago, (chess)programs have evolved to much at the present.

I think Van der Wiel once said something like 'Stop thinking you're playing chess against a computer. It's a different game, so you have to play different'.
Lasst die Maschinen verhungern, Ihr Narren...
Lasst sie verrecken!
Schlagt sie tot -- die Maschinen!
