In 1983 There were FRANCE CHAMPIONSHIP in CHAPELLE D'ARMENTIERE (North of FRANCE).

TON SIJBRAND played SIMULTANEOUS GAMES.

You recognize this guy next to Sijbrands, Jacques?
It's Pierre Ghestem, the last Worldchampion from France.

PATRICK KOPP onlined the list of Past World Champions (Mens) here :

According to this list, PIERRE GHESTEM became WORLD CHAMPION in 1945 and 1947.

P. GHESTEM was born 14th of FEBRUARY 1922 in LILLE (RIJSEL). He died in MARCH 2000 because of bones cancer.
He has been French champion in 1942 and 1943.

This was the first victory from Roozenburg over Ghestem.
Piet Roozenburg in his book about the WC 1948 gives special attention to
14...6-11!, 37.43-38?, 38.49-43? 38...10-14! en 39.31-26??

Piet Roozenburg besluit het commentaar op deze partij in zijn boek over het WK 1948 met de woorden:
Een uiterst fraaie partij waarin de stellingen tot de 36ste zet in evenwicht bleven.
Op sublieme wijze strafte zwart een theoretische fout af, doch daarnaast een
woord van hulde aan de slagvaardige en hardnekkige verdediging van Post.

Interessante foto's!
Laos, Cambodja en Vietnam waren ooit Frans.
In Laos spelen ze het internationale spel, maar zijn ze de meerslagregel kennelijk vergeten. In Cambodja (Pnom Penh) heb ik het spel niet gezien, maar dat wil nog niet zeggen dat het hier niet wordt gespeeld. Ze hebben er wel stokbroden.
Het zou heel goed kunnen zijn, het is aannemelijk zelfs, dat in Vietnam gewoon internationaal 10x10 wordt gespeeld.
