IDF, World Championship in Russia

Post by Algimantas » Fri Sep 06, 2024 10:09

The International Draughts Federation (IDF) from September 5 to 15 is holding the World Championship in Russia. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is one way or another the leading international sports organization and its decisions are followed by international sports federations. The IOC has banned international sports federations from holding championships in Russia and Belarus. The IDF is practically putting itself outside the international legal sports system. In my opinion, the FMJD should terminate the shameful partnership agreement with the IDF.

"FMJD Executive Council meeting
Protocol number 16/09/2024
(...)
Executive Council meeting - Agenda
Status of the agreement with the IDF.
President informed that the World Draughts-64 Championships among men and women was held in Russia.
from September 5 to 13 September, in the Moscow region. This action of the IDF to organize international
sports event is strongly against IOC recommendations which were adopted in February 2022 and clearly
state that no international sports events should be organised in Russia and Belarus.
Executive Council also underlined that Agreement signed between FMJD and IDF on 13 February 2022 has
been suspended as well as membership status of the Russian federation and Republic of Belarus. As a
consequence no activities were implemented and in foreseeable future cannot be implemented, taking into
account actions of the IDF.
Executive Council decided the following:
1. According to the paragraph No.7.3 of the agreement with the IDF, FMJD terminates unilaterally the
agreement with the IDF, taking into account violations of the IOC recommendations by the IDF and
the fact that there were no any activities implemented and therefore as a consequence Memorandum
mentioned in the paragraph 2.5 of the agreement was not and will not be signed.
2. From October 1st onwards FMJD will disqualify players and referees for one year if they will have:
2.1. participated in draughts events and tournaments in the Russian Federation or Republic of
Belarus;
2.2. participated in draughts events and tournaments of the IDF;
2.3. participated in draughts events and tournaments along with players from national draughts
federations of the Russian Federation or Republic of Belarus irrespective of the status of the
player and using or not national symbolic of the Russian Federation or Republic of Belarus.
3. All national draughts federations and IDF will be informed about above-mentioned decisions of the
FMJD Executive Council"
