Re: International draughts tournament 2024
Hi Krzysztof,
That is what happens with an actively developed program: options and algorithms change all the time. I fully acknowledge (and I think all other programmers with me) all the hard work you put in playing all these engines against each other, many of which do not support the hub and/or the DXP protocols so require manual effort, and having to manage all these installations, settings and yes, options. The results also payed off, as we identified many scalability issues in GWD on your hardware that we addressed by adding, yes, more options.
However, we as programmers also put in a lot of hard work in developing and testing our engines including design choices such as 'Should I include EGTB positions in the training set of the neural network or not', and only after a lot of coding and testing you find the answer for your engine, which BTW often is: 'All these ideas seemed great, why are they not paying off??'. If you then loose a game because of a mis-configuration is tough, but I also forgot to double check with you the configuration of GWD you would be using.
Going forward perhaps it is a good idea to share the configuration that you will be using (a copy of the configuration file, a screenshot) with the programmers before the tournament starts.
Regards,
GW

I also thought about what you wrote. So now I will also provide screenshots of the program settings, if possible (it is not possible in all programs).gwiesenekker wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 12:56Hi Krzysztof,

Re: International draughts tournament 2024
Ronda 7 will be played on 03.03.2024. I am very sorry to all those interested, I have to change it to 04.03.2024.
Re: International draughts tournament 2024
The endgame Truus - Plus was really interesting. Not sure if 83. ... 21-26 was the decisive (wrong) move by Plus. Nevertheless seems that 2-19 still holds. But guess a check with a 8p DB will reveal the final truth.
Anyway it was again fun watching all these games.
