It thanks warmly Bert. Important pointer for of the ones what want to apply of program Horizon 4.2 and 4.3. It is necessary to get the file from the Internet about the name vcomp120.dll.

In the mean time Horizon has played a DXP-Match against Kingsrow.
Result (from the perspective of Kingsrow): 39 Win, 6 lost, and 113 Draw.
So there is much work to do for Horizon.
Basically I need to dig deeper in the evaluation functions from Feike, and analyzing the lost games.
For the moment however I want to focus on other things (like computer learning).

Good news for people who want to upgrade their computer this year and do not have local budget restrictions

Re: Search Algorithm
Herewith the result of a DXP Match between Damage and Kingsrow.
In this match I tested the parallel search (4 cores active).
Also Kingsrow was using a parallel search with 4 cores.
Search time for a game was 1 minute for each engine.
Result from the perspective of Kingsrow 9 wins, 6 losses, and 143 draws (which yields a 7 Elo-points difference).
So a Kingsrow win!
I guess I could add some minor improvements in the YBWC search, which would slightly improve the search speed ( most likely 5%-10%).
But I don't expect a dramatic different match outcome.
Attached the .pdn match file.

Re: Search Algorithm
A pity the local budget committee does not approve, but I very much like the dual-processor HP Z840, with the new 18 core Xeon E5 v3 processor announced today .....

Seems that everyone is working on secret projects in their labs.
In my case I (for the moment) don't work on the Engine, but I'm busy
with adding DXP functionality towards the Damage GUI.
Just as an example, below screenshot which contains the DXP Options Dialog,
with the DXP options available.

Re: Search Algorithm
Bert I have a huge request. I will try to write you understood me well. Throw open only Gui without engine Damage and without errors. So that man does not have to enter any commands. By the way, what with the program Horizon. It was to be a new version after two weeks, and here all the time lapsing.BertTuyt wrote:Seems that everyone is working on secret projects in their labs.

I live (and work) these days in Switzerland.
So I only use a small notebook for some programming.
Therefore I'm not able to issue something new for now.

Re: Search Algorithm
I come home to the Netherlands then you can share - new GUI (no errors) and as you have new versions Horizon. I am a keen play has several matches. Give an example of how worked very hard during the last tournament from GUI 2011, this program does not save the party in the format pdn - not really know why. Besides, the program Dragon 4.4.0 also saves the strange part in format pdn. For the author of the program Michela I give a lot of information, for me this information is not necessary and had to be removed manually. While playing dozens of party program Kingsrow noticed that Ed could improve one thing about the program. But that I will not be posted on the forum.BertTuyt wrote:I live (and work) these days in Switzerland.

With remote desktop you can do pretty much anything from any place in the world. And with wakeup-on-LAN you can even turn it off when you are done, to save some electricityBertTuyt wrote:I live (and work) these days in Switzerland.

Re: Search Algorithm
I will not share these options with the local budget committee..
I was thinking of buying a new laptop, or a 8-core system (or both).
But in the mean time I try to do some simple tests, and smaller changes in the GUI
(like DXP functionality), and try to resolve some older bugs.
Hope that the rest of the world is working on disruptive breakthroughs, as I hear little from
Michel, Ed, Gerard to name a few. So there is definitely cooking something somewhere.

Bert it is already necessary buy it such processor Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2697 v2.BertTuyt wrote:I will not share these options with the local budget committee..

Re: Search Algorithm
The E5-2697 v2 is a 12-core processor. Think Intel already has a 18 core Xeon processor ( E5-2699 v3).
I don't know to what extend the program strength and number of core scale. I'm afraid there there with 18 core already some saturation takes place.
Think Ed has a 8-core system (like Gerard), so maybe they can tell if a 8-core system (or more) makes sense.
For tasks like Database generation (where a parallel approach makes sense), more is better !

Re: Search Algorithm
Due to limited resources here in Switzerland, Im only able to resolve some bugs in the GUI.
But maybe that's also good, as I'm adding too much GUI functionality, and it would be welcome to create a stable GUI.
At least I have now solved the bug (I hope) that no pieces are displayed when you start the GUI in maximum mode.
Krzysztof if you want I can provide access to the latest GUI for testers like you, so you can verify on your system that the bug has disappeared. Just drop me a PM post and I will provide you with the link.
This weekend I will also continue with debugging the GUI DXP implementation.
