Suggestion about Dragon 4.2

Post by Catherine » Fri Jul 19, 2013 14:03

Hi Michel, thank again for Dragon 4.2. (forgive my bad english)
Just a suggestion for a litlle commodity for using Dragon; I mean, for example with Dam 2.2, Truus or Aurora Borealis, when you want to play the move 1.35 -30, you click only on the piece 35 and the piece move to 30 because it is the only move possible. Please is it possible to bring this function in your wonderful Dragon. Thank again.

I'll take that into consideration for the next major release.

Hi Michel.

Unfortunately there is still error of the option PERMANENT BRAIN while playing matches between programs. This option isn't also acting correctly during the game with the man.

Hi Michel.

Unfortunately there is still error of the option PERMANENT BRAIN while playing matches between programs in version 4.2.1.

I decided in great detail to test the option PERMANENT BRAIN in all versions of program which have. Versions of programs 4.1.2, 4.1.3, 4.1.4, 4.1.5 option PERMANENT BRAIN of cannon correctly. In versions of program, 4.1.6, 4.1.7, 4.2.0, 4.2.1 option PERMANENT BRAIN is acting well and not well. If you will play the match in versions 4.1.6, 4.1.7, 4.2.0, 4.2.1 it is an option PERMANENT BRAIN is acting correctly, but if you start the match between programs this option isn't acting generally speaking. If you would like to play after the match of programs, match between the man it is already correctly a option PERMANENT BRAIN of not cannon. In order to option PERMANENT BRAIN acted correctly it is necessary again to run a program a new.

I would improve in programme also moving and the beating of pawn. If only everything in the program underwent it oneself automatically.

Dragon version 4.2.2 is now available for download:
http://mdgsoft.home.xs4all.nl/draughts/ ... v4.2.2.msi
* Single-clicking on a target field or single clicking on a piece with only one option to move will now play that move.
* Dragon is now available in the Russian. You can change the language in the settings.
* fixed bug in endgame
* Improved readability of the field numbers

A bit I tested new versions 4.2.2. Still the option PERMANENT BRAIN isn't acting correctly. The strange announcement is demonstrating itself.

After this announcement the further game in the program is not possible.

There is beta version of dragon draughts 4.3 available for download. A lot of progress has been made on increasing dragon's strength.

Changes:

engine:
* bug-fixes for multi core machines (occasionally dragon played a random move)
* improved database caching
* enhanced time control
* various improvements. Dragon should now be the world strongest draughts program, but this should be independently confirmed.

interface:
* damexchange improvements: ability to pause match, limit endgame databases, play with both white and black, play game series. Some issues are still unresolved. Pondering is not available in damexchange.
* new layout for the status bar, showing the current score and depth
* various bugfixes

Michel, thanks for sharing.
I guess that you might be right (based on other communication which we had).
Could you post in this forum games and/or match results (and or games) which could underpin your (likely valid) claim?

Next to that I assume that the download version is not as strong as your tournament version as it has not the 8P DB and the (large) breakthrough and evaluation tables which you use.
Is it possible to indicate the ELO difference between the 2 versions?

Anyway good progress, so i have now (at least) 2 rabbits to chase..... :)

I measured 8v6 piece databases a while back, and the effect was fairly small. The effect of evaluation/breakthrough table size seems to be fairly limited as well. One problem is that the larger data set takes a longer time to access, because it doesn't get cached by the cpu as well.

In any case, you can either generate the 8p databases yourself, or download most of them. There is a link elsewhere on the forum.

Typical matches against kingsrow result in about 1.5 dragon win for each kingsrow win (and loads and loads of draws). I'll run another match tonight (with the download version) and post some of the data and settings.

He thanks, now everything is acting. I have such a request and a question, and you can make available tournament versions of program Dragon.
