Kenya Inter-Bank Games kick off

24 Institutions are taking part in the 26th edition of the Inter-Bank sports competition that got underway on Tuesday with football matches at the Kenya school of monitory Studies (KSMS) Ruaraka.
The games will be official opened on Saturday at the same venue by the chairman of the Kenya Institute of Bankers Council John Waka while the closing ceremony will be presided over by the Governor of Central Bank of Kenya Prof. Njuguna Ndungu who is also the Patron of Kenya Institute of Bankers.
Kenya Premier League (KPL) side Kenya Commercial Bank might might also feature in the tournament though club Vice Chairman Ali Agil said they are not even aware of the the tournament. He told our writer that they will relegate the sport to their employees.
"We shall be involved in our KPL matches.We have never made any arrangements with KPL to postpone our League matches.So, I can assure you our chances of featuring in the annual tournament are nil.We shall allow our KCB employees to feature in the tournament" observed Agil.
The games are expected to end on September 18. Sylvester Obuon who is the Chairman of the organising committee told the press that they are expecting a big turn out and called upon members of the public to turn up for the annual event whose entrance is free of charge.
Most events, he added,will be held at the Kenya School of Monetary studies, the KCB Sports Club ,Utalli Grounds, and Barclays Sports Club.
The golf tournament, which usually attracts the top executives in the banking industry, will be held at Vet Lab Golf Course on Friday September 17th.
The overall defending Champions are Equity Bank who were followed in second and third place last year by Central Bank of Kenya(CBK) and Post Bank respectively.
Teams have have been asked to collect the sports fixtures from Kenya Institute of Bankers offices on 6th floor Lyric House and to ensure their teams are in time for respective events.
The organisers have thanked Nairobi Sports House, and other Banks who have in the past given support to the games by way of trophies and tokens for winners.
Teams participating in this years event include African Banking Corp. Ltd, Bank of India, Central Bank of Kenya, CFC Stanbic Bank Ltd, Commercial Bank of Africa, Consolidated Bank of Kenya, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Development Bank of Kenya,, Diamond Trust Bank of Kenya, Eco Bank, Equatorial Commercial Bank and Family Bank Ltd.
Other teams include Habib Bank Ltd, Housing Finance, Imperial Bank, Investments & Mortgages Bank,KCB, Post Bank, NBK, Equity Bank, AFC, Barclay bank, University of Nairobi, and NSSF.
Sports disciplines that will be up for grabs include Football, Basketball , Squash Badminton, Volleyball, Netball, Tug-of-War, Lawn Tennis, Darts, Snooker, and Draughts. Others are Scrabble, Athletics, Swimming, Golf, and Chess
