SOFTWARE RATINGS

Post by Jacques PERMAL » Sun Mar 09, 2008 20:39

Bonjour,

Ed/Gerard and others.

On the all-time list TRUUS is still number one.
As TRUUS does not compete these days in tournaments, we have no clue what actual performance is these days.
At least I know that TRUUS was always extremely strong, lightyears ahead of competition.
On the other hand, there is no TRUUS available with 7-man databases, or prepared for WIN64 and/or multicore.

What are your results against TRUUS?
Don't think we can ask Stef to modify his program for DXP, so we could easily play ziljions of games ........................................
There is also not an easy solution which does not take days of work.
So hope you have more creativity?

Who from the other programmers also uses TRUUS as test-vehicle?
I do anyway (and i bought a legal copy) !!!!

Truus does have 7 piece databases (since 1998, Stef Keetman published at length on this in the magazine Dammen) but it is not commercially available unfortunately.

Rein,

I know that he published something about this. But the problem for me is more related to Truus auto-play (in a DXP or similar way) which is not possible, so it is difficult to test his/her strength during a match.
Do you know if Stef is willing to add this feature (only for the programmers amongst us) ?

Hi Bert, I don't know Stef personally, but I think he is no longer active in draughts programming. But who knows, in 1999 (when he published his last version of Truus), he also was inactive for several years.

Ed has had several long manual matches (158 games each) with both Truus and Flits (as well as automatic ones with Dam2.2 and your program), and if he is willing to post the results you would get a better idea of the real strengths of the various programs...

In 1998 Stef Keetman made a new draughts program for the Frisian Variant of the game. I saw Stef in Leeuwarden that year. Lusoris played Teake Kooistra

Lusoris has beaten the world champion several times since. And the analasys function in Lusoris made it a great gift in the Frisian Draughts World.

The last time i heard, Stef is now competing in Frisian Draughts events en still is programming Lusoris!

note1: If you are Frisian champion in Frisian Draughts, you are also World champion.
note2: In Frisian draughts a stone may also capture stones over a horizontal or vertical line!

Rein, see below remark from you. Is it possible to scan some of the articles to pdf, and sent it to me?

Think this is a great achievement, taken into account the memory-size, processer speed, and Hard-Disk capacity around this time.
Did he produce this databases on his own PC, or did he use external computing power.

Did he calculate all databases or a subset (example 5m - 2m).

Truus does have 7 piece databases (since 1998, Stef Keetman published at length on this in the magazine Dammen) but it is not commercially available unfortunately.

Something I read led me to believe that he did not build the whole 7-pc, only a subset with mostly kings. I can't remember where I read that though.
