On what kind of hardware you want to run this tournament? If this is on 1 computer only you have to make sure that pondering for all engines is disabled, otherwise you will get skewed results.

By the end of coming week I will send you the Ares 1.53c version, it has a slightly improved network and book. I also made some changes to the futility pruning algorithm, now it will find the solution of tactical problems somewhat earlier. It's rating didn't improve much, at most 9 Elo compared to the 1.53b version.

Hi Joost,

Thanks again for this release.
The tournament will be runed on two separate computers
Hp Omen X 2S core i9 runed at 4.5 GHZ with added Ram of 64 Go, Windows 10 installed to permit to each engine to deploy his strenght.

I will probably get a more powerful but this itsn't so bad.

Thanks to all.

Hi Joost,

Hello Sidiki!

Windows 10 has some settings options dedicated to developers that purposely limit the use of hardware. Exploring these settings, I understand that it is possible to make the computers similar and consequently the tournament less unequal.

Big hug my brother!

Hi Sidiki,

I tried to mail you, somehow it doesn't work, my mail-server doesn't want to send out mail to you. Maybe the problem is on my end, I don't know, I will take a look at it today.

Today or tomorrow I will put the new version 1.53d on the FTP-server, in single core tests it improved about 4 Elo points, multi core I didn't try. Only the engine has been changed, the network remains the same. Maybe I will add a slightly newer book.

Hi Sidiki,

Good luck with the tournament!

Can you tell what kind of hardware do you use for this tournament? Processor, clock frequency, number of threads and memory size? I assume you use two computers to allow the engines to ponder, are these computers hardware wise exactly the same or are they different?

Ares doesn't play it's first move from book, I let the engine decide by itself, I noticed it opened wit 34-30 in it's first game, it would only do this at very low depth, this makes me wonder.

Is it possible to post a list with the settings for all engines?

Hi Sidiki,

Thank you for the information!

I assume you have to play the games by hand and that you are very busy with it. It would be easier to automate these tournaments by building a special site for it, e.g. something like lidraughts.org, this would be a lot of work though, it probably isn't worthwhile.

Sidiki, thanks for organizing.

Although the known programs surface to the top, it is very good to have a new kid in town named Idames.
Think all the cards are still on the table who will win this tournament.
Good luck for the second half.

Hi Bert,

Thanks again.

We have Effectively a new kid IDames.

Yes all the cards are on the table. It's why the table it's made in glass 😎.

One of the things that are interesting it's the possibility for all programers to analyse game of his baby to see that all work fine.
