Game 16: Ron King wins and equalize score: 1-1

[Event "WTM Gayp 2014 - Day 4 - Game 16"]
[Date "2014-07-08"]
[Black "Ronald King"]
[White "Sergio Scarpetta"]
[Result "1-0"]
1. 11-15 22-18 2. 15x22 25x18 3. 12-16 18-14 (A) 4. 9x18 23x14 5. 10x17 21x14 6. 6-9 26-23 7. 9x18 23x14 8. 1-6 29-25 9. 6-9 24-19 10. 16x23 27x18 11. 8-11 32-27 12. 3-8 30-26 13. 11-15 18x11 14. 8x15 26-23 15. 9x18 23x14 16. 2-6 28-24 17. 4-8 31-26 18. 8-12 25-21? (B) 19. 6-9 26-23 20. 9x18 23x14 21. 7-11 27-23 22. 15-18 23-19 23. 18-23 14-10 24. 23-27 10-7 25. 27-32 24-20 26. 32-27 7-3 27. 27-24 1-0

(A): A line that has the reputation to be a safe draw for white, but that verdict is doubtful, as Red clearly has the initiative in the endgame. One Single careless move can be costly in this line.

(B): And here is the mistake.

Score: King 1, Scarpetta1, Drawn 14, 8 games to go.

(A): The White Dyke. An attempt to get a draw for white, but not offering much chances to score.
(B): Usual is 7 ... 26-23. The text move ends in a structure that is surprisingly hard to play for white, but still drawable.
(C): Theory prefers 10. ... 32-27 to draw. Elbert Lowder once tried 10. ... 31-27 against Asa Lot betteong (US Nationals 1980) and lost. Ron King's move is certainly not better then 10. ... 32-27, and might be the cause for his loss, but at least it is a step in the wrong direction.
(D): 11. 18-22 was already very strong at this point.
(E): 11. ... 30-25 to stop the 18-22 idea was called for. Now Ron King seems to fight for a lost cause.
(F): 14. ... 30-26 was played in Morrison-Lowder, US Nationals 1996, but red eventually won.
(G): After long thought Scarpetty realizes that due to the strong piece at 18, which can not be removed, white will eventually end up in zugzwang.
(H): As now 15. ... 30-25 does not win the piece: 16. 6-10 25x18, 17.10-15 and red wins.a
(I): A cunning attempt to create complications in his opponents time trouble.
(J): And here red atually misses the easier 21.14-17, but the position is still a win for red, and red manages to convert that.

Score : Scarpetta 2, King 1, Drawn 17, 4 games to go
