Sergio Scarpetta (Italy) seems determined to win the right to challenge title holder Ron King (Barbados) like he did in 2012 when Ron held his title, when both played an excited match that ended in a dead heat 12-12.

Here is the game that Sergio Scarpetta took from the 2nd placed Barbadian Jack Francis who arlier this year ended Ron Kings reigns as National Champion by beating him in the final.
This time Jack lost a men, but managed to hold a few men of his opponent backwards with the prospect of a majority of kings, when he was struk by a stroke that instantly killed him….

[Event "2013 WQT"][Date "2013-10-09"][Black "Sergio Scarpetta"][White "Jack Francis"]
1. 11-15 22-17 2. 9-13 24-20 3. 13x22 25x11 4. 8x15 21-17 5. 5-9 17-13 6. 4-8 29-25 7. 7-11 27-24 8. 9-14

Here 9. ... 32-27 is recommended by theory. The text move is suspicious.

24-19 9. 15x24 28x19 10. 11-15 19-16 11. 12x19 23x16 12. 15-19 25-22 13. 2-7 31-27 14. 8-11 22-18 15. 14x23 27x18 16. 10-15 26-22 17. 19-23 18-14 18. 6-10 22-17 19.
15-18 14-9 20. 10-15 9-5 21. 18-22 13-9 22. 22-26 9-6 23. 1x10 5-1 24. 26-31 1-6 25. 31-27 17-13 26. 27-24

Best was now 26 . ... 16-12 with chances for a very narrow escape into a had hard draw. But
13-9 ? see diagram lost by a firework:

27. 23-27 32x23 28. 15-19 6x8 29. 19x26 30x23 30. 3x26 Scarpetta Wins
