INVITATION for the 12th Thailand Open 2016 (6-15 May)

Sun, sea, beach, nature, culture, friendly people, nice food, nice nightlife, draughts, … is there a better combination? Playing draughts in the morning, swimming in the sea or sitting on an elephant in the afternoon. In the evening, if you like, there are many open bars.
In May 2016 there will be the 12th Edition of the international draughts tournament THAILAND Open in Jomtien, a nice tourist village just at the beach.

Tournament
We will play 9 rounds in 9 days according to the Swiss System and the rules of the FMJD. Thailand Open is recognized by the FMJD and therefore there are standards for rating and international titles to earn. Time: 80 + 1', so for each player 80 minutes and 1 minute per move.

The entrance fee of the participation is 55 euro. If you want to stay in the same hotel as the tournament, the costs are app. 190 euro for 9 nights with breakfast, based on a shared room.
Excursions are, of course, not included in the price. We recommend you to spend more days in the nice country of Thailand. Come and join the 12th International Draughts Tournament in Jomtien (‘Thailand Open’) 6-15 May 2016 in the Jomtien Garden Hotel, 31/71 Moo 12, Nongprue, Banglamoung, Chonburi 20260, THAILAND.

9 May: 9.00 hrs. 4th round; 14.30 hrs. 5th round
10 May: 8.00 (!) hrs. 6th round; 13.30 hrs. Excursion ---> Nong Nooch (if you like)
11 May: FREE DAY. Full day excursion (if you like).
12 May: 10.00 hrs. 7th round;
13 May: 10.00 hrs. 8th round;
19.00 hrs. Thailand Open Blitz Championships
14 May: 10.00 hrs. Thailand Open Rapid Championships
15 May: 10.00 hrs. 9th round;
17.00 hrs. Closing Ceremony

You can choose if you want to play the Open Blitz- and Rapid championships or not. If you don’t play one of these championships, you will have more free time.

Prizes:
There are many prizes (at least 50 prices, devided in money (> €2.500 and cups) in several categories. It depends on the number of participants.
There are special prizes for the best Asian players, Best Women, and Youth players if there are enough participants in these categories (>3).

It's not necessary to be a strong draughts player.
It is an open tournament for everyone who wants to play international draughts.

Day 01, Friday, April, 29 Arrival in DUBAI.

Day 02, Saturday, April 30, DUBAI Dhow Cruise with Dinner
During the day you have free to acclimatize. You can already explore the city or go shopping in the souks or major Malls in Dubai.
At about 19:00hrs you will be picked up for a Dhow Cruise (buffet & incl.diner non alc. Beverages) This romantic excursion sail by moonlight on the Dubai Creek. During this cruise with a traditional Arabic wooden ship, has an enchanting view of the Dubai skyline while enjoying a delicious dinner. The character of the city is an entanglement of modern and traditional. You'll see luxury yachts. Beautiful examples of architecture like the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and the spectacular building of the Chamber of Commerce can not pass your sight. But the old wooden dhows, the residence of Sheikh Saeed and the Heritage Village remind you of the past. Dinner and fragrant Arabic coffee are included in this excursion.

Day 03, Sunday, May 01, DUBAI - Dubai City Tour, Sharjah, Palm Island

- This fascinating tour takes you to Sharjah, Ajman, Dubai and Palm Island. You travel to the enchanting museum of Ajman, located in an ancient fort. This museum gives an intriguing picture of local life before the discovery of oil. Along the way you will pass the spectacular King Faisalmoskee in Sharjah, the Al Ittihad monument and the ancient palace of the ruler. On the return journey, stop at the Majarrah souk with its mosaics and golden dome. You can also see the 150 year old Al Naboodah that the life of a wealthy pearl divers family revives. Then visit the Blue Souk and Souk Al Arsah where more than 600 stores carpets, gold, silver, antiques, perfumes, clothes and many other products to sell. Then travel back to Dubai where you will find the skyscrapers of the Sheikh Zayed Road admire the direction of Dubai Marina, Madinat Souk, Jumeirah Beach / mosque and the world famous hotel Burj Al Arab view. Day 04, Monday, May 02, DUBAI Day at leisure!
-Dubai has many attractions to see and experience. It is difficult to make everyone happy. One can stroll through the city's nicest, another wants to go shopping in the souks or the gigantic shopping malls visits, while another prefers to beautiful white beach is (Jumeira Open Beach). That is why this day is left open so that everyone can fill it to your own taste. There are a variety of ready-made excursions, which can be made. A must is the Desert Safari. A must for the Dubai Eye, but we did this excursion is not included in the regular program, because it is not suitable for heart patients and people with neck and back pain. It can get pretty wild to draw near! This excursion begins somewhat later in the afternoon and in the evening you will then, after dinner under the stars, back to the hotel.

Day 05, Tuesday, May 03, DUBAI - Full day excursion to Abu Dhabi
- In this tour you will get a good picture of Abu Dhabi, an emirate of Dubai seems that strong but yet so different. From Dubai Travel along the world's largest man-made harbor at Jebel Ali. During the two hour drive to Abu Dhabi you will pass through desert landscapes covered with acacia trees. Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and has many striking examples of modern architecture. They show intriguing interpretations of Islamic themes, set in contemporary materials. During the route along the Corniche with the clear blue Gulf waters and enticing islands along the coast, you will see glittering skyscrapers and other buildings. In the city of Abu Dhabi with its impressive contrasts, visit the Abu Dhabi outdoor museum, largest shopping mall in Abu Dhabi and the Seikh Zayed Mosque which is certainly worth a visit.

Immediately after the Thailand Open event, we have a very nice trip to Singapore & Malaysia which everyone can participate! After successful tours to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam last year, this year is Singapore & Malaysia's turn. The great diversity of culture and nature makes Malaysia a fascinating country. This trip offers the best Singapore & Malaysia has to offer. We start in the bustling metropolis Singapore. Then we go to the colonial city Melacca, and then the super-modern capital Kuala Lumpur. Then we go to the highlands of Malaysia, Cameron Highlands and then many of the colonial past to sniff at the famous island of Malaysia: Penang. This Island is also called "the Pearl of the Oriënt" and its capital Georgetown is the second largest city of Malaysia. At the end of this journey is still the highlight of the program with wonderful days on the paradise beaches of Langkawi island. After these days, we will go back to Bangkok. End of an unforgettable holiday!

After breakfast, proceed with Singapore City Tour. Visit to Little India - a haven of Indian culture and ethnicity that embodies the vibrant and colourful pulse of the Indian community in Singapore. Next, drive to the mouth of the Singapore River. The Merlion, a national icon representing Singapore’s humble beginning as a fishing village is located here. The Merlion Park set against the City as backdrop is a sight not to be missed.
Drive past the Financial District to Chinatown and discover the rich heritage of Chinatown through insightful stories. Singapore’s largest ethnic group, the Chinese, first settled here and yet right in its midst you’ll find one of our oldest and picturesque Hindu Temple. We will than take you for lunch for lunch at a local restaurant before proceeding to Gardens by the Bay. Explore Singapore’s latest National Garden - Gardens by the Bay. Visit the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest cooled conservatories; the vertical gardens of our Supertrees; take a walk amidst our aerial walk at OCBC Skyway; and relax and wonder around the outdoor themed gardens. The Flower Dome - a cooled conservatory replicating the cool-dry climate of Mediterranean
regions in South Africa, California, Spain and Italy; with unique plants like the Baobab trees, the Madagascar Ghost Tree, and the 1000-year-old Olive tree. The Flower Field caters for a changing display of vibrant plants and blooms. The Cloud Forest - Be awed by the world’s tallest indoor waterfall at 35-metre amidst the lush vegetation and tropical epiphytes. Day3> Wednesday, 18 May 2016, Singapore-Malakka

Early breakfast and check-out. Transfer from Singapore the historical state of Malaysia, Melaka.
The Hindu Prince Parameswara founded Melaka several centuries ago. It has since been colonized by the Portuguese, Dutch and English – which is probably why it’s so diverse and rich in ethnicity and history. The former major trading port in Asia has given up the busy life it once possessed to play a more serene role as a forerunner in tourism.
Upon arrival, proceed for lunch and tour of Melaka city. Visit St. Peter’s Church (1710) – the oldest Christian Church still in use in Malaysia. Drive past the largest 17th century Chinese cemetery outside of China, located at Bukit China or Chinese Hill. Proceed to view the famous gateway; ‘Porta De Santiago’ and the ruins of St. Paul’s Church lined by 17th century Dutch tombstones. Next on the list is “Red Square” – the salmon pink Dutch administrative buildings which today houses the Malacca Museum and government offices. Visit Christchurch. Next is the visit to the “Abode of the Merciful Clouds’ or the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple – the only temple where you can find 3 major doctrines of local Chinese belief under the same roof i.e Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism. On the same street, lies Kampung Kling Mosque, the oldest mosque in the country with Sumatran architectural features. Visit the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum, showcases the local history of ethnic Chinese-Malays called Baba-Nyonya in Malacca. Take a stroll along Jonker Street, which houses rows of antique shops.
Return to hotel. Check-in, and rest of the day is at leisure.

Check-out after breakfast. Thereafter, depart for Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. En-route sightseeing to Putrajaya. - The Administrative Center of the Federal Government of Malaysia. Situated within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), the development of Putrajaya marks a new chapter in the history of modern city planning in Malaysia. It is set to be a model garden city with sophisticated information network base on multimedia technologies. Termed as Malaysia's first Intelligent Garden City, Putrajaya will become a vital development catalyst due to the role it will assume as a model city – as the nerve center of the nation and an ideal place to live, work, conduct business and engage in sports and recreational activities.
Lunch in Putrajaya before proceed to Kuala Lumpur. Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur city, Check-in to hotel and free at leisure. (B), (L)

Day5>Friday, 20 May 2016, Kuala Lumpur
After breakfast, join a day of Kuala Lumpur City Sightseeing .
They say the best way to get to know a new city is through a tour. This interesting tour will unveil the beauty and charm of the old and new Kuala Lumpur known as the “Garden City of Lights”. See the contrast of the magnificent skyscrapers against buildings of the colonial days. The KL city tour will take you to many of the highlights that this beautiful city has to offer. By the end of the tour, you will probably feel as if you have “seen” the soul of Kuala Lumpur!
This tour introduces you to the beauty of old and modern Kuala Lumpur. You will have an opportunity of photographing the famous Petronas Twin Tower; the world’s tallest, as it stands majestically in the city center. Stop at the breathtaking Royal King Palace, which provides excellent photographic opportunities. Our next stop is the National Monument, erected in 1966 in memory of fallen soldiers who fought in the guerilla’s war against communism in defending of the country. Drive pass the National Mosque and the Railway Administrative building before coming to the Independence Square where the country first national flag was hoisted to mark the achievement of independent from the British in 1957. Here at this spot, you will be also able to photograph the scenic Sultan Abdul Samad building with its intricate Moorish architecture.
Our last stop will be at the limestone hills of Batu Caves. A flight of 272 steps will lead up to the sacred Hindu temple cave where the shrine of Hindu deity, Lord Murugah lies. Another cave, called the museum cave, is filled with images of deities and murals depicting scenes from the Hindu scriptures.
Lunch at a local restaurant before return to hotel. Rest of the day is at own leisure.

Day6>Saturday, 21 May 2016, Kuala Lumpur-Cameron Highlands
Check-out after breakfast and depart for Cameron Highland located at 1542 meters above sea level and noted for its tea plantations and cool temperatures. Stop on the way for a visit to see the cottage industry of basket weaving followed by Lata Iskandar Waterfall and a native settlement. Be immersed in the cool, crisp air of Cameron Highlands with its wonderful scenery. Tour of Cameron Highlands upon arrival consists of the tea plantation, tea factory, market place and butterfly farm.

Day7>Sunday, 22 May 2016, Cameron Highlands- Penang
After breakfast, set-off to Penang with en-route sightseeing stop. En-route visit the Sam Poh Tong cave temple. Drive up north to the Royal Town of Kuala Kangsar. Make a photo stop at a century-old palace, now converted into a museum for the Royal Regalia. See the enchanting Ubudiah Mosque, with its fairy tale architecture that seems to have emerged from the fables of the Arabian nights!
Proceed further north and cross the Penang Bridge, a super structure 13.5 km long ; one of the longest bridges in Asia – to Penang, the "Pearl of the Orient." Upon arrival, check–in your beach resort.

Day8> Monday 23 May 2016, Penang
0900 hrs, depart from hotel for a City, Culture, and Heritage tour of Georgetown, which has been official declared as a UNESCO SITE in 2008. Visit the 3rd longest reclining Buddha figure in the world followed by Kek Lok Si Temple, also known as Temple of 1000 Buddhas, that was built in 1904. It is the most beautiful and largest Buddhist temple complex in SouthEast Asia. Next we visit Fort Cornwallis, the landing site of Captain Francis Light in 1786 when he arrived to start the first British colony in Penang. The tour carries on with a visit to the water village of The Clan Jetties at Weld Quay, so named as residents of each jetty share similar surname. We next take you along Pitt Street, also known as “The Street of Harmony”. Here churches, Chinese temples, mosques and Hindu temples are built along the same street in harmonious existence side by side for centuries. Visit the intricate Khoo Kong Si clan’s house. After tour, return to the hotel and the rest of the day is at your own leisure.

Thailand Open 2016
Time for an update of Thailand Open 2016. It goes well with Thailand Open.
We already have lots of participants for the tournament and the tour to Dubai and Singapore & Malaysia. Now is the best time for Registration!
