Hi!
I am in the preliminary stages of planning a Canadian Open Checkers Tournament in 2004. As of today, no dates have been set, and a location is yet to be determined, but I would prefer holding this event in Toronto, Ontario, Canada sometime in July 2004. I believe the last Canadian Open was in 1998, and I'd like to start having this tournament every 2 years, as it used to be.
The highest finishing Canadian in this tournament becomes the Canadian Champion, and I would also like to establish provincial champions, as well as a youth champion of Canada!
Of course this tournament is not restricted to Canadians only! We hope to get as many players as possible, and hopefully we will have good prize money too!
I've been informed that there is currently a Canadian Checkers Association, although nobody seems to know anything about it. I'm going to do my best to try and get this organization to become a part of the FMJD, even if it means creating my own canadian checkers organization along the way!
If anyone is interested and wants more information, either post a reply here, or you can email me at clint_olsen@yahoo.com

Great plans. It will be very good if you'll manage it.
In the FMJD almanach Canada is actually mentioned as following
Fédération Canadienne du Jeu de Dames
2365 Chemin Laval
Blanchard, A.
St-LAURENT H4L
Quebec-Canada
tel +1-514-2518 038
fax: +1-514-3342 768
The website of Association québécoise des joueurs de dames - http://www.fqjr.qc.ca/dames.html
I suppose this federation is busy with 100 and 144-cases games.
In far 1956 Canadian M. Deslauriers became World Championship - 100
one of just 14 World champions since FMJD started their official championships (1948)
The new structure of the FMJD presume that every country can be presented in all of 3 sections ( international(100), checkers and russian/brazilian ) by separated federation.
Of course even better when one joined organisation represents all kind of draughts game in the country.
Maybe it is also good idea to contact Mr. J. Reade.
