11th International Open Draughts Tournament
in SALOU
May 11 - May 19 2008


We invite you to participate in our 11th international open draughts tournament in Salou, which will be played from Sunday, May the 11th until Monday, May the 19th, 2008.

The tournament will be played in the Swiss system with 9 rounds. The complete program is shown below. As all former years the tournament turns out to be a great event. After the enormous success of the last years, we are sure the participants will succeed in having a good time, because of the combination of a good holiday near to the beach (50 m), a fine hotel-accommodation and most of the time a spectacular draughts tournament in which excellent draughts players as well as the weaker ones participate. Anatoli Gantvarg, Guntis Valneris, Kees Thijssen and Vladimir Vigman have already subscribed. We hope Alexander Presman, Michael Korchov and a lot of other strong players will participate too. Like last year we are trying very hard to let participate the best female players of the world. We think this to be a great challenge for all other participants.
For the sixth year the accommodation for the tournament will be Hotel Cala Font in Salou.

The participation fee for the tournament is € 55,--. The money prices (in number and height) will depend on the number of participants. The first price will be at least € 600,--. Other prices will be paid for highest classifications, the best woman, best senior (over 55 years), best combination or best game and a “surprise – price” for one of the weaker players.

Hotel-accommodation is available for the price of € 290,-- (including the tournament) and is based on a two-person room. For persons, who don’t participate in the draughts tournament, the price is € 255,--. A single room costs (for ten days) € 115,-- extra. A reduction of 5% will be given to the people, who already participated in one of the former tournaments in Salou. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

There will be transfers from the airport of Barcelona to Salou and the airport of Reus to Salou on May 10th and from Salou to Barcelona and Reus on May 20th. The price for both transfers (together) is for the airport of Barcelona € 40,-- per person and for the airport of Reus € 20,--.

There will be played with FMJD-rules (2 hours per player for 50 moves, then ½ hour for the rest of the game).

Friday May 16 is a day off. Maybe we will organise some excursions, like a trip to Barcelona or a Jeep-safari or a boat cruise (not included in the prices).
There will be a blitz-tournament on Friday May 25.

(Temporarily) registration stop for SALOU-2008.

The maximum number of 130 participants for Salou-2008 has been reached. From now we have a registration stop for 2 weeks.
If people want to participate this year they have to contact Peter Pippel (peter@salou-open.nl ). He will make a waiting list and decide at April the 27th if people from the waiting list can participate. This is just possible if other people cancel for the tournament.
Of course, you can have a good holiday in Salou, but for the moment we can’t guarantee participation in this year’s tournament.
The new participation list contains 135 names, but three will not participate. We have 132 players (105 men and 27 women) from 18 different countries. 25 persons have a title: 9 international grandmasters, 5 international masters and 11 Federation Masters. 103 persons have a rating, 29 persons don’t have a rating yet. The average rating of the 103 is 2070. The used ratings are from the ratinglist, that has been published at April the 1st . This list will be used during our tournament.
In less than 4 weeks 130 persons will have a great tournament and 60 persons are in Salou just for fine holidays.
