Mogiljanski and Sijbrands applauding for Tchizhov, who
stayed world champion after the 20-20 with Sijbrands in Amersfoort 1990
</center>

In the Ton Sijbrands and Ada Dorgelo magazine Dammen, number 55, from June 1990, there is an interview met Alexander Mogiljanski.

Mogiljanski tells about the in his opinion greatest talent ever from Russia, Vladimir Odintsov; according to Mogiljanski Odintsov was an even bigger genius than Dibman or Tchizhov. But Odintsov loved vodka even more than draughts.

Mogiljanski played in 22 Finals of the Soviet championship. In 1979 he finished 1st, together with Korenyevski. In 1975 he was third after Andreiko and Gantwarg, in 1987 only Korenyevski and Valneris were stronger.

He emigrated to the USA in 1988. Mogiljanski ended 9th in the world championship in Bamako (Mali) 1980.

Mogiljanski was born in 1942, he is 63 years old now. His father was an engineer and his mother a surgeon. He is jewish and that's the main reason for his emigration in 1988 out of the hostile Soviet Union.
He was born and raised in Charkov, Ukraine.

He was Sportsmaster of the Soviet Union, and als engineer and computerexpert.

Mogiljanski nieuwe Pan-Am damkampioen

25/07/2005

Uitslagen laatste ronde: Andy Charles - Anthony Alexandre 2-0, Louiceus Shang Wong - Jose Maria Filho 1-1, Adam Andall - Frantz Forbin 2-0, Willem Blijheid - Paulvin Simon 2-0, Iser Kuperman - Romain Tchicaya 2-0, Alexander Mogiljanski - Louis Gilles 1-1, Raoul Alias - Gilles Carisse 2-0, Dickson Maughn - Nelsen Angela 2-0.
Eindrangschikking: 1. Mogiljanski 23 punten, 2. Shang Wong 22, 3. Filho (Bra) 21, 4. Kuperman (VS) 20 (WP 220, SB 280), 5. Andall (Gre) 20 (220, 252), 6. Charles (Trinidad & Tobago) 19 (221, 265), 7. Maughn (Trinidad & Tobago) 19 (221-233), 8. Alexandre (Hai) 15 (225-198), 9. Forbin (Gua) 15 (225-176), 10. Alias (Cur) 13, 11. Gilles (Can) 12 (228-165), 12. Blijheid (VS) 12 (228-139), 13. Angela (Cur) 12 (228-138), 14. Carisse (Can) 7, 15. Simon (Can) 6, 16. Tchicaya (Can) 4 punten.-.

Final results and pictures

Post by Andre Leclerc » Thu Aug 04, 2005 16:19

Hi everybody,

I just came back to work this Tuesday after an 8-day trip to California for the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships. I finished in 5th place in the Men's Championship (results available on the NHPA website at: http://www.horseshoepitching.com but more precisely here: http://www.horseshoepitching.com/bakers ... CHAMPS.TXT). For those who have seen her pitch during the Festival in Montreal, my wife Sylvianne finished in 3rd place this year in the Women's division.

Now about the Panam, I updated our website with the final results, games and pictures (http://www.fqjr.qc.ca/fqjr/justejouer/r ... dames.html). You'll see with the pictures that we also tried to promote the game with exhbitions on the street. Thanks to the generous players who contributed. The tournament ended with the presentations and supper in a Chinese restaurant.

I want to thank all the players for their participation in what is the 2nd largest Panamerican championships ever. It is also said to be (by some players) the strongest Panam ever (this I can't judge).

I want to thank the Just for Laughs Festival, and especially the producer of the games festival Alain Lussier. I want to thank also the Panam Federation and specially the referees Hensley Rondei and Cor Verdel for their tremendous work.

Congratulations to the champion Alexander Mogilyansky, part of a great bunch of people, the draughts players which I'll never forget.

Andre Leclerc.
