Harm Wiersma asked me to send this combination to the Panamerican organizers and participants in Montreal as a sign of his interest in the devolpments over there and to bring his salute. Harm writes that he invented this position when he was very much involved in Canadian 144 Draughts compositions.

Hi everybody,
Vladimir Lubarski was unable to play because he could not get time off from his job (could not get his holidays). We feel for him because we know how he loves draughts. We would have liked to see how he would have done in these championships. He has shown up a few times to watch the games and analyse.
More news about the tournament: we have had very hot weather here since (mid 30's and high humidity level). The playing area is air conditioned but the residences where the players sleep do not. Most of them didn't sleep much. There are been very very few spectators, a disapointment to me) but we held demonstrations ¸about everyday for the public on the street as part of the Just for Laughs Festival. There were a LOT of people! Some of the most generous players have been Jose Maria Silva Filho and Andy Charles who gave simultaneous sessions a few times. Everybody likes Jose Maria, such a nice and tremendous individual!
More news later today (last round held this afternoon). Jose Maria has to play against Shang Wong that last round.
