The World Checker Federation chooses Hardenberg for the 2007 World Checker Championship
HARDENBERG, The Netherlands, November 16 /PRNewswire/ --

The checker organizations of the Municipality of Hardenberg in the Netherlands will jointly organize the 2007 World Checker Championship. This was announced this afternoon by the World Checker Federation (FMJD: Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames). Wildkamp, a company based in Lutten, the Netherlands, will be the event's main sponsor.
The World Checker Championship in Amsterdam has just ended, and the FMJD Board decided there to assign the 2007 World Championship to the Hardenberg organization committee. The committee consists of representatives of the four Hardenberg checker clubs, and is supported by a number of experienced individuals from the world of checker players. The Municipality's current Alderman, Jan Koops, who will be retiring after the March 7 elections, is - in his private capacity - the committee's Chairman.
Wildkamp
The local organization found Wildkamp Company willing to become the main sponsor of the 2007 World Checker Championship. Wildkamp is closely involved with the sport of checkers. The company is Ton Sijbrands' permanent sponsor, and has twice organized a blind simultaneous game for the Grandmaster.
During the most recent world record attempt, the first contacts were made with Mayor Bert Meulman to organize the World Championship in Hardenberg. The company has its corporate office in Lutten (Municipality of Hardenberg), and is a wholesaler/distributor of plastic pipe systems, components and technical items with the largest variety in this type of products in the Netherlands. The company operates from 23 locations all over the Netherlands and from 1 location in Germany.
World Championship
The World Checker Championship in Hardenberg will be held from May 10, until June 2, 2007 in theater "De Voorveghter." Twenty players from all over the world will compete in Hardenberg for the world title. Aside from the tournament, the organizing committee is also planning to organize other nice activities, and is considering a checker tournament for all school-going youths in the City.
