Re: Deferred capture -- a revelation in checkers games

In Leapfrog Checkers a Frog (Man) and a Toad (King) can perform this long jump provided that the enemy piece didn't move just before . So this is the other form of deferral. Otherwise it's the same as English/American checkers. How to get children interested in checkers games? Let them play with lon...

Re: Deferred capture -- a revelation in checkers games

Also in Swedish Draughts , orthogonal capture is deferred, but only permissible in directions north, east and west (never south). Thus, it is like Spanish checkers , insofar as a piece has not gained the momentum to capture orthogonally. English Long Checkers introduces deferred leapfrog capture. A ...

Re: Deferred capture -- a revelation in checkers games

In Frisian Draughts 2.0 , the concept is instead used to make the Man stronger. Unlike in traditional Frisian Draughts where orthogonal capture is always allowed, it is not allowable for pieces that stand still. It is kind of natural. A piece that gains momentum becomes stronger, like a rugby or hoc...

Deferred capture -- a revelation in checkers games

The concept of deferred capture has proved fruitful. In Vanguard Draughts a Man cannot immediately capture backwards if an enemy Man just moved there. Such a momentarily invulnerable Man is called "vanguard". It allows breakthroughs and attacks from behind. It has similar effect as in Stockholm Chec...

Re: Draughts with deferred backwards capture

Finally, it works correctly. I've had problems with the evaluation function. http://mlwi.magix.net/bg/draughtsdeferred.htm Besides, I've come up with a curious idea: Leapfrog Checkers . It's like English checkers, except that both Frog (Man) and Toad (King) may also jump (leapfrog) a distant diagona...

"English Long Checkers" -- introducing 'deferred long capture'

"English Long Checkers" -- introducing deferred long capture This game introduces new combinatorial possibilities compared with traditional English checkers. Play develops faster than in the latter, which also makes it suitable for the large 10x10 board. In the endgame, positional advantage plays an...

Re: Draughts with deferred backwards capture

I have reprogrammed this, because it played badly. Now, it's much better.

Swedish draughts

"Swedish Draughts" takes aspects of Spanish checkers and combines with Frisian draughts. Orthogonal capture is deferred--neither Man nor Dame can make an immediate orthogonal capture. They may, however, capture orthogonally subsequently; as part of a capture sequence. A Windows program is provided. ...

Killer extra-light

In International Draughts, three Kings against one King is seldom a win, which tends to make the game drawish in grandmaster practice. Diverse halt rules have been proposed as a remedy. C. Freeling's killer rule is defined thus: "when a King occurs as final capture, the captor must halt behind the e...

Re: Killer draughts

Of course, I made a hideous programming error in Modern Draughts. Fixed now: Modern Draughts--improved International Draughts! You should really consider Juri Anikejev's suggestion. The King must land immediately behind the last captured piece, provided (1) that it is a King and (2) it's a multiple ...

I have updated my Killer draughts and Modern draughts ("Killer light") Zillions programs on below links. The code is now somewhat more effective.
