Re: Intel's 160-threaded machine (8 CPUS x 10 cores x 2 threads)
I guess that the parallel search scales in terms of nodes/second. But im not sure if the time to depth, compared with a non-parallel program, scales in the same way. Normally you will encounter saturation when increasing the number of threads... Bert Yes Bert, when I ran K.R.I. with 8 threads, it w...

Re: Intel's 160-threaded machine (8 CPUS x 10 cores x 2 threads)
I'm afraid it exceeds my budget, but anyway.... The positive news, a 8P DB in less then 1 week :) Hi Bert, Wow, that is something! Ed tells me that the 8p in I. Draughts is twice the size of the 10p in regular 8x8 checkers. That must have taken a long time to compute! And the negative..... I'm not ...

Perft(20) = Node Count Plus (20)
I decided to run Perft(20) using my Node Count Plus program. This was a non-parallel version of perft(), with no hash table. It was run on a single core. http://www.liquidnitrogenoverclocking.com/images/perft%2820%29.jpg It took 16.5 days averaging 52.5 million nodes per second. I think it is safe t...

Playing around with Liquid Nitrogen, 6.0 GHz on AMD 1100T
I filled up my dewar with Liquid Nitrogen today, to work on an AMD 1100T research project. The goal was to break 6.0 GHz (which was barely achieved) and compare some benchmarks against some of the 5.0 GHz+ Sandy Bridge systems we have. I will post some pictures in a little while. It looks like a sin...

Re: Kingsrow International + endgame databases is available
I'm doing a complete rewrite, from a blank project in Visual Studio, so I am quite a ways distant. When the DTW DB10 project launches (and hopefully for the last time) I am going to revisit the new coding project. The 64-bit move generator needs a new hash table scheme, so this prompted the re-write...

Re: 8 pieces endgame database
Well I just finished building an overclocked 5.0 GHz Intel Core i7-920. It is now perfectly stable after having run Prime95 for 3 days continuously on all cores (8 threads total). Interestingly, it is about 1.7 times as fast as my 3.9 GHz i7-860 at running my 6-piece Distance-To-Win database in the ...

32 cores, 512 GB of RAM!
Anyone need a more advanced system, like this 32 core system with up to 512 GB of RAM?

I wonder what Kingsrow International would do on that system?

Well you can't be giving this stuff away for free, heck, your electric bill probably won't be paid until you get 10 orders for it.

Re: Endgame database benchmarks
With an SSD, is it more interesting to read less than 4Ko ? more than 4Ko ? Hi, I have a 128 GB SSD on my 3.9 GHz Intel Core i7-860 (with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM). I will run a read/write test on it a little later. As for the 4K reads, I don't think hard disk speed matters. Whenever you call fread() with ...
