Re: International draughts tournament 2024

The endgame Truus - Plus was really interesting. Not sure if 83. ... 21-26 was the decisive (wrong) move by Plus. Nevertheless seems that 2-19 still holds. But guess a check with a 8p DB will reveal the final truth.
Anyway it was again fun watching all these games.

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024

Krzysztof, yes I'm writing a book about the History of Computer Draughts (in Dutch). The History will comprise (most likely) of 2 volumes, and each volume is around 350-400 pages. But this is much work, so guess end date around 2025. The picture is from the first volume, and has 380 pages. Bert boek...

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024

Sidiki, all the best to you and other people working on better computer draughts programs.
I'm sure my projects will not end in 2024, otherwise i have nothing to do in 2025.

See below one of my projects..... :D

Re: pydraughts, a draughts library in Python

Thanks for sharing. I have basically 2 questions , in your github example you have a tournament with 2 players, are more players also possible (and in that case) are engines switched on and off automatically. And last but not least what we would like to see; a tournament with multiple engines which ...

Krzysztof, thanks for organising, and all the time and energy you spent to make this happen.
It was really exciting, when the last round started there were 2 programms leading.
So also congratulations to Ed.

A pity that GWD crashed in the first round, at least it looked like that.
The position against Mobydam seems to be quite drawish...

Re: Moby Dam

Harm, what a really positive surprise :D ! Thanks for sharing. You wrote that is does not match kingsrow/scan yet, what is the elo difference (guess you did some 158 games dxp matches? And is there a specific reason you did not go for nnue (although patterns is still the better/faster option). Bert

Re: 1rst INTERNATIONAL DRAUGHTS ENGINES TOURNAMENT

Sidiki, again thanks for organizing.

I have great respect for those who organize these events, as it is rather time consuming.
Maybe we can automate play between a large number of engines in the future.
But as some already posted here, this is not going to happen soon.

Re: NNUE

Joost, you are right, creating NNUE endgame databases is not without, here some answers: * In my case i get the positions from actual game-play. For example I run a game (or match) against another program, and I collect all the endgame positions (in the current test 5 man x 5 man) which are "found" ...

Re: 1rst INTERNATIONAL DRAUGHTS ENGINES TOURNAMENT

Sidiki, thanks for organizing. After 8 rounds, it is too early to draw final conclusions. But it seems that now (more or less) we have 9 strong programs. And the final outcome seems to be mainly determined by the results against Truus, Flits en Horizon. But maybe we see some unexpected surprises.......
