Ann’s Grove captures NCE Screen Printers Schools Thrill Draughts tourney

On June 21st last, NCE Screen Printers LTD hosted their 2nd Inter Schools Draughts Tournament, The Thrill Tournament, sponsored by the Caribbean International Distributors Inc. at the Bladen Hall Multilateral School.
Ann’s Grove Secondary clinched the title, beating Golden Grove Secondary and Annandale respectively in the team event. The top schools then competed in the Champion of Champions event with New Campbellville Secondary representing Georgetown and Ann’s Grove of the East Coast, which the latter claimed for the double.

Denzil Wilson of Hope Secondary was named the most outstanding individual player.
The Guyana Draughts Association led by senior Mark Braithwaite supervised the tournament, which was played using their rules.
Director of Sport Neil Kumar supported the event.
At the formal opening ceremony the students were greeted by the management of NCE Screen Printers Ltd and also officials from the EPA who enlightened the students about the issue of litter and its effects, and what the Government of Guyana has been doing in that regard. They emphasized the need to make the commitment now to join with other Guyanese to not be a litter bug.
Mr Braithwaithe from the Guyana Draughts Association explained the rules of the game and supervised the tournament.
Presentations were made to the winning schools. The trophies awarded to the outstanding schools; Ann’s Grove Secondary, Golden Grove Secondary and Annandale Secondary were donated by the National Sports Commission.
Drinks and water were donated by Thrill Caribbean International Distributors Inc. and snacks by H.A. Snacks and NCE Screen Printers Ltd for the students.
Draughts Games was printed on fabric by NCE Screen Printers Ltd and sponsored by Noble House, BM Soat, EPA, Carib Foods Inc, Baracara Quarries, Farfan and Mendes, Ramchand Auto Sales, Rubis, Ansa McAl, David Persaud Investments and Demerara Bank.
The schools that participated were Ann’s Grove, Annandale, Bygeval, Bladen Hall, Buxton, Beterverwagting, Golden Grove, Hope, Lancaster, Lusignan, LBI, Mahaicony, Novar, Plaisance Secondary’s and President’s College.
NCE has understood the value of board games for years and always manufactured them as part of their educational toys and games line.
